Seinfeld is one of the most popular American television shows that were filmed in the genre of sitcom. Firstly, it was introduced to the general public on NBC. The release of the first episode occurred on July 5, 1989. The show was created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David. For many years, this sitcom was one of the favorite American sitcom. As a result, it received many awards from different magazines. In 2002, the magazine «TV Guide» put TV series "Seinfeld" at the top spot on its list of the 50 best TV shows of all time. (CBS News). In 2008, the magazine «Entertainment Weekly» put TV series "Seinfeld" at the third place in the list of the 100 best television shows of the past 25 years, after "The Sopranos" and "The Simpsons". There were many episodes that were highly ranked on TV Guide and put on the list of 100 greatest episodes of all time.

Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David characterized their sitcom as "a show about nothing." At the time of the release of "Seinfeld", it was very different from most sitcoms of the time. The main characters were not relatives or colleagues, but until the end of the show they remained close friends. However, some experts are not sure that this serial is completely about nothing and gives their suggestions. Ryan Dawson is convinced that this sitcom is about something. “The show is about certain kinds of judgment that we make about others” (Dawson). The prototypes for all the main characters, as well as many minor characters have become friends of Seinfeld and David. Part of the permanent secondary characters was obvious parodies of real famous people.    

Seinfeld is a sitcom that mostly make focus on the main characters rather than on the story. The main characters are Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza, Elaine Benes and Cosmo Kramer. The main character of sitcom is Jerry Seinfeld. He often serves as "the voice of reason" amongst the madness generated by the people in his circle. Jerry is the only character who appears in every episode. In the Jerry’s apartment constantly appeared his eccentric friends. Storylines often involve Jerry into romantic relationships. As a rule, he finds small and silly reasons to end those relationships. George Costanza is Jerry’s friend from school days. He is petty, stingy, dishonest and constantly envious of others' success. George is frequently portrayed as a loser who is unsure in his abilities. He constantly complains or is lying about his profession, romantic relationships, and many other things that, as a rule, eventually turn into trouble for him. If he has some success in the show, it does not last for very long. Elaine Benes tends to be very frank with people. Because of this he often gets into trouble. She deeply involved into her never-ending search for a perfect man and similar to Jerry, she cannot be with one man for too long and end her relationship over nothing. The last main character is Cosmo Kramer who is an eccentric Jerry’s neighbor. His unusual name was not disclosed until the middle of the serial. He has a key from Jerry’s apartment and come when he wants. He often borrows Jerry’s food and other things but never returns them.     

While Seinfeld was broadcasting on NBS, it established itself as one of the most popular and famous sitcom in the television history of America (Fretts). Despite the fact that it was promoted as “the show about nothing” it quickly became popular and made Jerry Seinfeld one of the richest actors on American network TV. “There’s simply no way to downplay the impact that Seinfeld has had on the pop cultural landscape” (AskMen). Seinfeld will be always one of the most popular and beloved sitcoms which left the bright spot in the television history of America. It will forever remain in the hearts of its fans.
