An ethical code is a method that will guide an individual in becoming aware of what is right or wrong and being able to relate that knowledge in decision-making. According to NOHSE, there are varieties of ethical issues encountered by renal dialysis workers in their professional practice. These ethical problems are normally centered on several things. We have ethical dilemmas often centered on the clients' self-determination, confidentiality, and resource availability, prolongation of life, and hospital/insurance company policies and practices, which may bring conflict with the social work values. These problems can be well illustrated by social workers in their field of professional practice.

The way patients conduct themselves during treatment is very important to the renal workers. If a patient remains self-determined and is confident with the treatment done, an improvement will be quickly noted in his or her condition. We can also consider a patient's resource availability. If the resources needed to undergo the treatment are available, it will also encourage the condition of the patient. On the other hand, the patient should also be resourceful. It means that the patient should be able to finance the operation either in cash or through insurance.

Don't waste your time!

The major problem is with the biopsychosocial needs of patients in the inpatient and outpatient dialysis units. This problem has been addressed by the Department of Social Work and Utilization Case Management by employing two full-time renal dialysis social workers. Renal social workers have two tasks they do for their patients. They address patients' adjustment to illness, their rights, financial or resource concerns, and social support needs; provide emotional and concrete support services to the patients and their families on a long-term basis. Renal workers also discuss the issue of Advanced Directives with patients and are sometimes called upon to interpret the patient's wishes when deputies cannot be reached during a medical crisis. Renal social workers play a great role in helping both inpatients and outpatients in dialysis units.

Renal disease can be caused by complications of long-standing juvenile diabetes. If this disease is not treated earlier it will affect an individual's health for many years. This disease can also affect an individual's way of living; for example, due to the decline in health an individual will be forced to leave a job. It will affect the individual's way of living. Patients with this disease can be treated through medication and counseling. They can be given counseling to help them cope with their situations. They can also be kept under medication to prolong their life.

Part 2

The Roles of the Human Service Worker

I would encourage Mrs. B. to join the community and not to lose hope in life. Her condition has affected many people and can be cured in time through counseling and acceptance in combination with medical assistance. Losing hope is not an option to fight more strongly.

The renal disease has been deteriorating the life of Mrs. B. for many years. I have been having juvenile diabetes for a long time, which has made my health decline every day. After many years with this disease, I ended up having the renal disease. I find myself undergoing hemodialysis very often, which I have undergone for three years. Later it has forced me to leave my job because of my unfit health in handling my job. This disease also made my husband abandon me and my son despite my condition. My son and I were forsaken as a result of this disease. I became a burden to my husband. It has also denied my son the right to parental love.

Since I was deserted, my own mother moved to my place to take care of my son and me. She has been supportive of my life and the well-being of my son. My condition has made my mother and my son look for support from the Catholics.

I have been hospitalized over the past years without any success. This disease is just deteriorating my health. For how long will I fight with the disease? For how long will I live on this machine? Dying is better than living on this machine. I am fed up with this treatment for there is no success.

The Role of Mother

My daughter has been with this disease for a long period of time. Since the time that I realized her condition, I agreed to take care of her and my grandson. I decided to act as her son's guardian since her ex-husband had terminated parental rights long ago. My daughter wants to terminate her treatment. This is suicidal. She is very young to die. It will also set a bad example to her son since she is giving up. It will make it hard for her son to cope with life. My daughter wants to affect the life of her son through death. My grandson will be left as an orphan child despite the care and support I provide to him. He will not have enjoyed his parental love since he is just at his tender age. My daughter wants to die and this is not the right time for her death.

The Role of Physician

Mrs. B. can live long with dialysis despite her serious condition. Through guidance, she will be able to accept herself, cope with her condition, and live longer. If she remains determined, has patience, and continues with dialysis her condition will not decline. Despite her chronic diabetes, which may hinder her from renal transplant, she can live longer if she accepts her condition and continues with the dialysis.

The Role Guardian Ad Litem

The eight-year-old young child was deserted by the father due to his mother's condition. The young child was denied his right to parental love. This child has the right to enjoy his father's love as well as his responsibility. It is my suggestion that this child should also be taken care of by his father.
